"Father of the Bribe" is the one hundred-ninth episode of King of the Hill. It first aired on January 6, 2002. The episode was written by Dean Young and directed by Cyndi Tang-Loveland.

Summary[]

Kahn bribes Bobby to stay away from Connie.

Plot[]

Kahn Souphanousinphone tries to bribe Bobby Hill to break up with Connie Souphanousinphone. Connie and Bobby decide to pretend to break up so they can get the money. Connie then acts as if breaking up with Bobby has caused her mental distress. When a schoolteacher thinks Connie may be depressed and suicidal, her parents try to push her and Bobby back together. After endless double dates with the parents, they become tired of each other, and decide to break up for real, ironically much to Kahn's horror.

Meanwhile, Dale Gribble hosts a very low-power pirated radio show, that runs for 24 hours a day every day. It focused on conspiracy theories, and it did not do very well. Eventually, citing criticism from his sponsors (of which there is only one, Dale's Dead-Bug), Dale sells the radio station to Octavio, who changes the format to Norteño—TexMex music with a heavy polka influence.

Characters[]

Stinger Quote[]

  • Kahn: Fat white lump!

Trivia[]

  • The title of the episode is a reference to the 1991 movie Father of the Bride.
  • This episode marks the end of Connie and Bobby's relationship which had previously begun in the Season 3 episode "Take Me Out of the Ball Game."
  • In Texas, the majority of hotel/motel chains will not rent rooms to anyone under eighteen years of age and will ask for proof of identification upon checking-in to prove age.
  • Dale is heard saying the "F-Word" in this episode over the radio but it is beeped out, indicating that he censored himself. It is the scene right before he gives the radio station over to Octavio, and before the scene jumps to Bobby laying in his bed listening to the radio.
  • The song that Dale plays on the radio is "Under the Boardwalk" by the Drifters.
