Season 10[]

Derek and his friends took a street corner from the homeless man Spongy, and they made it their own hangout place to panhandle money from people. When Bobby and Joseph worked as human billboards, Derek asked them for some change, treating them with friendliness. The two children immediately found Derek and his panhandling lifestyle cool, so they endeavored to imitate him and successfully received money from pedestrians as well. After Hank discovered Bobby's panhandling, he forced his son to give back all the money to the people whom he took it from. As Bobby exhibited a jar of money on the street, Derek suggested that he could take the money off his hands so that the child does not look allegedly foolish, so Bobby gave him and his friends the jar.

Later when Bobby needed more money to go out on a date with Sandy, he asked Derek for some of the change, but the latter informed Bobby that he already spent it all and could not spare any money for Bobby. The boy became desperate and begged for some spare change, making Derek distance himself from him. When Bobby got another street job, Derek and his friends made fun of him for working a job. Angry at their lack of work, Bobby exposed Derek, Drew and co. as posers who panhandled money for luxuries rather than for survival. Irate, Derek tried to prevent Bobby from working, but Hank witnessed it and threatened to "kick [his] ass up one side of the street and down the other" if he did not leave. Begrudgingly, Derek and his friends departed after Hank's threat.
