Chip Block is a ventriloquist dummy that Bobby Hill was given in the episode "Now Who's the Dummy?" He dons a varsity sweater and is given the background of a fullback.

History[]

Season 5[]

Hank began to like Chip more than Bobby due to Bobby giving Chip a high knowledge of sports. Eventually, Bobby gave up on Chip. Later, Dale destroys the dummy due to an irrational fear of it, but Hank rebuilds a new Chip, one that could be the perfect surrogate son that could be everything he wishes Bobby should be. After Peggy told Hank that Bobby's feelings were hurt, Hank created a ventriloquist replica of Bobby.

Chip appeared once on The Tonight Show. This apparently also at one point resulted in him having merchandise replicas, as Dale got one for his birthday as a boy with the label "as seen on the Tonight Show" on its package box. As with Bobby, Chip also drew attention away from his previous owner Jerry Popper. The two at one point had showbiz fame, but the inanimate Chip always made it as the star of their acts and left Popper largely unrecognized.

Trivia[]

  • Chip Block is named after a quick-hitting block. Which fits, considering he is a football player.
  • He has a brother named "Slugger", who was made into a baseball bat.
